The US maternal health care system is rife with judgment of the very women they serve.

What if you’re deemed unacceptable?

What if you’re a pregnant woman who can’t even get a doctor’s appointment?

We meet Lena just after she has learned that the baby she has been eagerly anticipating for 17 weeks no longer has a heartbeat. Lena details the process she goes through as she tries to find health care. Because she has been with a midwife, she cannot find an ob/gyn to give her the life saving procedure she needs. Eventually, the only place she can receive care is at an abortion clinic. In telling her story, Lena paints the picture of a maternal health care system rife with judgment of the very women they serve, and leaves the audience asking what they can do to create change.

We want to share this story as widely as possible, including in non traditional theater spaces and virtual events. If you have ideas about how The Appointment can make further impact, please email BookingTheAppt@gmail.com.
